Legal Assistant (Charleston, SC)
Legal Assistant needed for Regional Law Firm which specializes in civil litigation, medical malpractice and tort defense. Please send all inquires to resumes@legalprofessionals.net
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Transcription from BigHand
· Log incoming mail using ProLaw and its dockets, email mail to attorney and paralegal
· Enter case information into Prolaw on all new files and drop dockets as needed
· Download state court filings from SC efiling site and email to attorney and paralegal on the file. Save pleading to Prolaw and drop dockets as needed
· Efile necessary pleadings in state and federal online court systems as directed by attorney
· Serve discovery at attorney’s request; prepare standard enclosure letters as needed
· Submit attorney reimbursements through Chrome River
· Perform or coordinate filing of documents into physical file
· Coordinate travel, conference room reservation, conference calls, etc.
· Review files for closing (confirm with attorney and request final bill)
· Process court roster emails and drop hearing dockets and/or updating existing hearing dockets as necessary and making changes/corrections per the new roster emails where indicated as needed
· Other non-billing tasks as assigned
· Cooperates with co-workers
· Responds politely to internal staff, clients, vendors, etc.
· Works as a member of a team
· Accepts change in a productive manner
· Performs other duties as necessary or assigned
Hours Worked
· Employee is expected to work 37.5 hours weekly and any overtime necessary.

Qualifications
· High school diploma, some college preferred.
· 3 years of related work experience preferred.

Special skills, knowledge, abilities
· Ability to type 50+ wpm.
· Familiarity with transcription and transcription devices
· Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
· Possess excellent organizational skills and pay close attention to detail
