Estate Paralegal

Job Description:

A International Law Firm seeks a Trust & Estates Paralegal for its Charleston, SC office. This position will be responsible for assisting attorneys, other paralegals and firm members with all aspects of estate planning and trust administration work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The specific duties of the Trusts & Estates Paralegal are driven by the particular needs of the legal team being supported.  In this position you would likely provide the following services:

  • Meeting with clients, trustees and family members.
  • Communicating with beneficiaries.
  • Drafting correspondence and legal documents.
  • Preparing deeds, asset spreadsheets and probate pleadings
  • Marshalling, organizing and analyzing asset information.
  • Preparation of inventories, asset allocation agreements and asset transfer documents.
  • Preparing federal estate tax returns and gift tax returns
  • Reading and interpreting Wills and trust instruments.
  • Preparing and filing all documents required to probate wills.
  • Preparing receipt and release agreements, disclaimers, affidavits, accounting petitions.
  • Ensure proper indexing and filing of original documents.
  • Reviewing bank statements; notarizing documents; and organizing and maintaining client files.
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree/Paralegal Certificate preferred with three to five years related experience in a mid or large-sized law firm.
